EquiSIM™ Digital Twins

Using EquiSIM, our team builds a digitally rendered environment that mirrors your real-world facilities and networks. We map vehicles, charging/fueling infrastructure, service schedules, and operational process flows into Digital Twins to assess the conditions required to transition to a zero-emission fleet.

EquiSIM is operationally focused and will help uncover the nuances of transitioning to zero-emission vehicles before any assets hit the road. EquiSIM will help you:

  • Identify and prioritize how to phase your transition to zero emissions
  • Streamline servicing and maintenance operations within your facilities or yards
  • Validate proposal details to support government funding applications
  • Perform analysis and generate custom reports for future state planning
  • Inform facility layout and redesign
  • Reduce operational costs and risks
  • Prioritize organizational changes

Funding Application Support

EquiCharge understands the challenge of governmental agencies and funding cycles, creating a successful funding application, how policy and regulations drive the adoption of zero-emission technologies, progress reporting and submitting claims for reimbursement.

Our team members have helped clients secure more than $98M in government funding for:

  • Feasibility Study and Fleet Electrification Strategic Planning
  • Zero-Emission Vehicle (ZEV) Procurement
  • Facility Assessment and Design Engineering (Programming, Schematic, Design Development and Construction Documents) for new, retrofit and facility expansions
  • Charging Equipment, Installation and Commissioning
  • Facility Design and Build, Commissioning and Handover
  • Operator and Maintenance Training
  • Organizational Change Management (OCM)
  • Emergency Response Preparedness (Police, Fire, EMS)

Government funding has been secured from a wide range of sources like Emissions Reduction Alberta (ERA), Alberta Community Transit (ACT), Canadian Public Transit Infrastructure Fund (PTIF) and Alberta Green Transit Incentives Program (GreenTRIP).

EquiCharge understands the challenge of governmental agencies and funding cycles, creating a successful funding application, how policy and regulations drive the adoption of zero-emission technologies, progress reporting and submitting claims for reimbursement.

EquiCharge can help you meet federal, provincial/state funding application requirements for current programs like Canada Infrastructure Bank (CIB), Zero-Emission Transit Fund (ZETF) and Low or No Emission Vehicle Program with the US DOT.

Zero-Emission Vehicle (ZEV) Implementation & Deployment Plans

EquiCharge offers ZEV Implementation & Deployment Plans to determine the ability of an organization to support the deployment of ZEVs. Implementation & Deployment Plans are created in a forward-looking manner, considering critical factors required for full-fleet electrification.

We help your organization create a solid foundational plan that will enable you to procure vehicles and infrastructure with future-proof specifications. ZEV Implementation & Deployment Plans provide a multi-faceted approach that integrates with other core service offerings such as BIA, Facility Assessment & Planning, Modelling & Simulation Services.

Facility Infrastructure Assessment, Planning, Requirements & Design

EquiCharge depends upon an operationally focused informed infrastructure design approach to plan for Zero Emission Vehicle (ZEV) projects. This means that, first and foremost, we consider how a transition to zero-emission technology will “work” at every project stage. This ensures that the design of a facility will support a zero-emission fleet operationally into the future.

Based on stakeholder engagement and expansion plans, EquiCharge develops an Electrification Strategic Plan (ESP) that enables the transition of your current facilities to support your choice of ZEVs. Using our proven approach to assessing alternatives for facility infrastructure, EquiCharge consults directly with utility service providers, client engineers and design engineering and construction services companies using a facility Electrification Requirements Specification (ERS) throughout the facility design and build. EquiCharge ™ Solutions works with large, reputable industry partners dedicated to meeting your projects' time, cost and quality targets using professional project managers.

We incorporate Equity Charging™ -our Charging Operations strategy - into the planning and design for your new facility, retrofit facility, or facility expansion. This allows us to execute projects with an "Informed Infrastructure Design" approach, incorporating future-state operational requirements into your plans today.

EquiCharge™ Solutions provides facility planning, design and build services for:

  • Charging Infrastructure
  • Facility and Building - New, Retrofit and Expansion
  • Vehicle Depots, Maintenance Garages and Yards
  • Demand-load Management and Energy Storage Systems
  • Alternative Energy Solutions (i.e., Solar, Microgrid and other technologies, like FESS)

IT Impact Assessment, Design, Integration, and Testing

EquiCharge has industry-leading insight into IT software solutions and charging operations that will work together to allow a ZEB fleet to function optimally in the future. This experience has come from 1) developing & deploying charger control & energy management systems ourselves and 2) engaging with the industry worldwide to understand how ZEB fleets operate at scale across a comprehensive set of scenarios. This has led us to develop an advanced understanding of the system components and functionalities that must be incorporated into a successful ZEB deployment of various sizes.

Based on ZEB Implementation & Deployment Plans and selected technology, our IT Impact Assessments identify software requirements for managing and controlling a ZEB fleet (operations, networking, grid integration and energy optimization). Review of technical requirements for Vehicle and charging equipment monitoring, Smart charging and control, Vehicle-to-grid communication, Dispatch and operations control. CAD/AVL system requirements to manage vehicle range and change-offs, Scheduling software to manage vehicle characteristics, Integration capacity with existing software and standards (including OCA Open Charge Point Protocol-OCPP 1.6/2.0, ISO 15118 V2G Communication Interface/Part 1, SAE J1772 EV and Plug-in Hybrid EV Conductive Charge Coupler & SAE J3105 EV Power Transfer System Using Conductive Automated Connection Devices). We offer IT services that include:

  • System Analysis & Design: Review of current systems, UML system architectural models, integration of client's transit or fleet IT systems with new systems;
  • Procurement Document Support: Definition of technical requirements and writing tender documents in support of IT solution procurements that meet the organizational needs based on implementation planning and identified needs
  • SOP Implementation: Phase in changes to operating procedures identified and developed during the planning phase.
  • Training Delivery: Training program delivery to all relevant staff that will interact with or require knowledge of new or updated IT systems.
  • Systems Implementation: Support the integration of new or updated IT solutions into current systems.
